Power of a Vision
It’s not what the vision is, it’s what the vision does.
What? Let me explain..
I have coached hundreds of people over the years and one my favourite exercises is guiding them to create a powerful vision for their ideal future.
I do this as a ‘time travel’ experience where we travel together into the future (kinda, at least until Elon builds one), I conduct a detailed interview of all the elements of the person’s future and how they built it, and then we travel back together to the present moment (I don’t want any time travel liability problems).
So far so good.
But what often happens when people come back from their ideal future (and they don’t want to, believe me) is that this one big fear creeps in.
They are afraid they don’t have what it takes to build the future they are now so inspired by.
And it is true. Today, they don’t have what it takes. They can’t do it.
But that’s ok. I can almost guarantee that no one ever had all it took when they started working towards their visions.
Any sufficiently big vision will require you to learn new things and unlearn old ones. You will need to overcome unforeseen obstacles, deal with major setbacks and encounter hundreds of other things as well.
It will require you to become a new version of yourself - to undergo a transformation into the version of you that is capable to reach your vision.
But it happens gradually, over time.
The true power of a vision is its transformational potential. It is an invitation for you to become who you need to become to succeed. Step by step.
The true power of a vision is not what it is, but what it does. To you.
If you have a big vision for your future career but have doubts, concerns or fears, you only need to start with a first step in the right direction and allow the rest to unfold over time.
