The Man Who Planted Trees
Could something as simple as planting one seed change your future?
Many people put off their ideal career until the perfect outside conditions exist.
They wait for the right time, right job opportunity, right co-founder or enough money in the bank.
I was once given a beautiful book that is called The Man Who Planted Trees by Jean Giono.
It’s a tale about a French man named Elzéard Bouffier, who quietly and methodically planted acorns in a barren, desolate landscape for years.
With no immediate result and no grand audience, he simply continued to planted seeds every day, without exception.
At first, nothing seemed to change. The land was as harsh and unforgiving as before.
But over time, something remarkable happened—the forest he planted began to grow.
Slowly, the trees took root, the soil became fertile, and life returned to a place where it once seemed impossible.
The barren land was now a thriving forest, rich with life, filled with streams, birds, and even families settling in where once there was nothing.
The place, which had been inhospitable and deserted, was now vibrant with new possibilities.
Bouffier’s daily consistent action, regardless of all the initial obstacles, transformed an inhospitable environment into a thriving natural ecosystem filled with life.
Small, intentional actions, taken every day consistently over time, can lead to profound change.
No matter how inhospitable or challenging the outside environment is, there is always something you can do on a daily basis to start planting the seeds of your future today.
If you’re feeling stuck or uncertain about your career path at the moment, you don’t need to make massive leaps right away.
Start with small, consistent steps today in the right direction and you will be amazed by the momentum you generate over time as your daily efforts compound.
What is the smallest thing you can do today to build your future?
