Build Your Own Momentum
“100% of the shots you don’t take, don’t go in.” - Wayne Gretzky
You need to build your own momentum.
It’s easy to get this wrong.
Many people have a big dream for their future. But they do not take action.
They wait for the momentum to happen, but it doesn’t.
They attend conferences to find clients but never speak to anyone. They have inspiring ‘catch up’ meetings but never arrive at anything concrete. They have a start up idea but never tell anyone about it. They browse job postings on LinkedIn but never apply for any jobs. They know what they need to learn but never invest time or money to do so.
The examples are everywhere.
Momentum doesn’t just happen, it needs to be built.
The world doesn’t care about your big dream, at least not at the beginning, when you need it the most.
But here’s the good news.
Even a small action taken consistently starts to build momentum very fast.
Every action taken in the right direction moves you forward, teaches you an important lesson or opens a new opportunity.
James Clear, the author of ‘Atomic Habits’ gives a simple example.
If you improve only 1% every single day for an entire year, by the end of the year you will be 37x better than where you are today.
Actions in the right direction compound.
When it comes to your vision or any big dream, do not wait for the momentum to happen. It may never arrive.
Instead, build your own momentum.
Take a small action today. Another one tomorrow. And then keep going. It works.
If you want to build momentum towards your dream career, I am hosting a private free masterclass on ‘Purposeful Career Design’, tomorrow, 16th October at 9am CEST.
