Purposeful Career

Are you living your dream career, or just surviving?

I have thought a lot careers lately and here is a framework that I came up with.

It divides career paths into 4 categories based on how fulfilling and how viable they are:

  1. Survival Career – Low fulfilment, low financial viability. This is the grind where work doesn’t fulfil you anddoesn’t provide financial stability or security. You’re barely getting by.

  2. Empty Success – High financial viability, low fulfilment. You’ve got a good pay check, but deeper meaning is missing. Your heart’s not in it, and deep down, you know it.

  3. Unfulfilled Dream – High fulfilment, low financial viability. You’re passionate about what you do, but you can’t seem to make a decent living from it. The dream is there, but you are loosing faith whether you can indeed make it happen.

  4. Purposeful Career – High fulfilment, high financial viability. This is the sweet spot. The work excites you, aligns with your purpose, and sustains you well financially. It’s where your dreams and ambitions become a reality.

Which quadrant do you find yourself in at the moment and where do you want to be?
